047 – Modcraft

Well if it isn’t the episode we promised you two weeks ago. I can’t believe you doubted that we’d actually make it happen . . . I mean when have we ever not delivered on a promise? Actually don’t answer that. To recap, this one is about PC game modding and a pretty famous title that even encourages you to create things as a player. Based on this episode I’m convinced that given enough time and the proper resources, gamers would eventually cure cancer. Assuming of course that most of us aren’t the assholes we appear to be on the internet. Those guys are the worst.

I also take some time to discuss a mod I made for the Marathon Game Trilogy many years ago on the mac. It was a Star Trek The Next Generation themed total conversion by the name of Marathon : Warp Factor and yes that means I’m a huge geek. Especially because not finishing it remains one of my biggest regrets. You see it was mostly completed when I lost everything in the horrible Zip Disk accident of 1999. All of that work and I was never able to share it with anyone. A huge blow for sure and it’s difficult to think about even now. However what’s even more shocking is what happened next. Fast forward 15 years and I start receiving emails from people still interested in seeing what remains of the project. THAT’S INCREDIBLE! 15 years later?! I have no idea what to say but I figure the least I can do is dedicate part of an episode to talking about the experience. Thank you everyone who supported me then and continued to have interest even now. I hope you enjoy this one!
